Memes within Politics
Believe it or not, memes do have a place in political media. For example, President Vladimir Putin of Russia recently put up a law against memes being made to mock or offend him or Russia. The new law caused a major outcry around the world. People were saying that it was a violation of freedom of speech and that Putin had no place in dictating peoples rights in the way he is currently suggesting. Countries like North Korea and China also have similar laws but those laws have been in place for much longer.
Political memes are also a form of meme and are often used as references to current events. The meme culture is not just about funny pictures of cats but also funny pictures of Obama. Political memes have opened up to the next generation and are slowly making younger generations more aware about the world we are living in and the future of our lives on the internet.

Memes in history
The very first memes were based off commonly known pop culture references, some included references to popular shows and movies. Memes in the old days didn't have any special sites to share and comment but instead were spread through emails and forums or even in hard-copy! Some of the earliest memes were Lol Catz and "The Hamster Dance".
Later on the world was introduced to "Rage Memes" and then the major worldwide "phenomenon", planking. Planking is the action of laying flat on various different surfaces and reached people over the world. Planking is one of the dumbest crazes as many people "planked' in unsafe environments and got themselves very hurt or even died.
Some of the more recent memes are the "Pepe the frog" meme which is the same picture of a comic drawn frog, photoshopped or drawn onto different images. There are millions of different versions of the same frog floating around the net, some of the rarer versions are referred to as "Rare Pepes". You can see some Pepe pictures in the photo gallery, the link can be found on the top taskbar.
Memes have found a way into every corner of the internet and are so widely known that it will be centuries until no memes remain, and to that I say Viva La Meme! Long live the Pepes!
